Design Specifications for Rack Cards
Size
Business card art should be 3.5” x8.5” for cards that do not bleed (see below for more on bleeds).
For cards with full bleed, art needs to extend at least 1/8th inch beyond the cutline. 3.75” x 8.25” would be the minimum size for cards with bleeds.
Bleeds
Bleeds are necessary when you want the background color or image to extend to the edge of the page. Add 1/8th inch of bleed on all sides of the card. If your design program allows for crop marks, please add them to your finished art. Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and online design site Canva allow for bleeds and
crop marks.
File Types
For print-ready art, PDFs are the preferred file type. JPG, TIFF, and PNG files should be saved at 300 dpi or at the maximum resolution available from the design program.
Quality
Generally, images copied from the Internet are not high resolution enough for printing. Also, many images are copyrighted and illegal for use. For best results, considering purchasing images from reputable sources such as
Depositphotos.com.
